LESSON PLAN DAY 3
Key Content
PA Core Standards
Anchor Descriptor - A1.2.3.3: Apply probability to practical situations.
Eligible Content A1.2.3.3.1: Find probabilities for compound events (e.g., find probability of red and blue, find probability of red or blue) and represent as a fraction, decimal or percent).
Common Core
Using Probability to Make Decisions
Use probability to evaluate outcomes of decisions.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSS.MD.B.7
(+) Analyze decisions and strategies using probability concepts (e.g., product testing, medical testing, pulling a hockey goalie at the end of a game).
What Will Students Do?
Students will complete guided note taking on key concepts of probability including sample space, favorable outcomes, total outcomes, and events. Integrated into the mathematics are questions of justice to challenge student's thinking.
Before the end of class, students will be assigned to have four peers complete the survey that the class developed. They should ask two male and two female students. Each student will be given a different grade level to survey.
What Will Teachers Do?
Teachers will facilitate large group instruction through culturally relevant examples. Students will learn the basics of probability and look at a few examples in order to develop an understanding of key vocab and concepts.
Assessments
Resources Needed
Homework
Each student will interview two male students and two female students. Each person will be assigned a different grade level to survey so that our data varies and we have a large representation of the school.

- Discover probability through culturally relevant, justice driven examples
- Problem pose around school arrest rates
